Howard Assembly Room at Opera North
The Howard Assembly Room is Opera North’s venue for exhilarating performances of chamber scale work.
Striding into its third jam-packed year and fully ‘coming of age’, the Howard Assembly Room, programmed by Opera North, is growing in reputation and prestige as an eclectic arts hub and independent venue at Leeds Grand Theatre. It offers new commissions, unique collaborations and rare UK performances from writers, artists and contemporary musicians, to the north of England.
Mixing together artistic genres and making new connections between musicians and styles of music, the Howard Assembly Room offers audiences many exclusive performances from a range of leading international artists and this Autumn is no exception. Classical highlights include Angelika Kirchschlager singing Mendelssohn, pianist Paul Lewis and soprano Kate Royal. These sit alongside gigs from electronic wizards Murcof and Francesco Tristano, an exciting fusion from Plaid and the Gamelan Southbank Players and jazz performers Basquiat Strings.
An irresistible selection of free twilight events with a heightened focus on family performances and workshops run by Opera North’s education department, continue to feature as part of the commitment to engage with new audiences and younger generations. European film can be seen throughout the season and there is a special ‘alternative Christmas’ with events for all the family. Key partnerships in Leeds include Light Night and the Leeds Film Festival.
