As Time Goes By
A Selection of Works
Tuesday - Thursday Evenings 7.30pm
Thursday Matinee 2.30pm
As Time Goes By is an opportunity to see the Company perform a rich variety of work by an array of talented choreographers.
Title piece As Time Goes By conjures up an era of classic glamour as the dancers perform stylish choreography to a selection of timeless songs including Always and Sophisticated Swing. Acclaimed Leeds jazz sensation Peter Grant, whose debut album sold over 100,000 copies, will sing live.
Returning by popular demand Mark Godden’s breathtaking Angels in the Architecture is inspired by the lives and times of the Shaker people. Everyone was talking about this simple yet highly moving piece when the Company performed it in 2009.
“Every step’s a delight.” Sunday Express
Completing the programme is a selection of exciting short pieces. These include Nimbus by multi-award winning choreographer Wayne McGregor. Featuring four dancers, and set to Impromptu by Franz Schubert, this piece was created for the Royal Ballet in 2007. The performance will also include a new piece by NBT’s Artistic Director David Nixon, set to an excerpt of Powerhouse by Australian Composer Graham Koehne.
Petipa’s world famous Grand pas de deux from Don Quixote, set to Ludwig Minkus’ famous score, highlights the Company’s impressive classical abilities. Completing this section NBT Ballet Master and former principal dancer Daniel de Andrade, will première Glass Canon set to music by Scottish musicians Moishe’s Bagel.
With all music played live by the Northern Ballet Theatre orchestra, combined with NBT’s stunning dancing, this is the perfect chance to experience the many styles of this fabulous company.
