“.. the effect is bewitching.. it's illuminating to see artists from these two genres working together” (Drowned in Sound)
Signed to cutting edge Warp record label, laptop wizards Plaid are hailed for their unusual collaborations with some of today’s most exciting musicians.
Plaid perform new material written with renowned Indonesian composer and Southbank Centre artist-in-residence Rahayu Supanggah, as part of a new UK tour. A mesmerising piece blending their trademark electronics with the hypnotic rhythms of a traditional gamelan percussion ensemble.
Gamelan has influenced western electronica, from Aphex Twin to Kode9, but this is the first time they have shared the same stage.
Commissioned by the Southbank Centre for Ether Festival 2009.
Tickets: £12
Seating for this event is unreserved. If you require reserved seating please contact the box office to make arrangements.
