City Varieties Summer Festival 2018
During the summer holidays, City Varieties Music Hall will be throwing open our doors to young people aged 0-17yrs. Throughout the holidays, children, young people and their families are invited to explore our beautiful theatre, make new friends and try their hand at something new, such as drama, music-making, dance and more.
For budding performers aged 7-11yrs, our Performing Arts Summer School offers the opportunity to learn new skills, work with theatre professionals and perform at the end of the week on the world-famous City Varieties stage.
7-11yrs Mon 13th – Fri 17th August 2018
In addition, our Summer Workshops offer a week packed full of creative activities. Last year young people enjoyed a range of workshops including; street dance, puppetry, vlogging, animation and song-writing.
7-11yrs Mon 6th – Fri 10th August 2018
12-17yrs Mon 20th – Fri 24th August 2018
“It was fabulous... she was engaged and motivated making friendships and gaining confidence in her creations and abilities. The performance at the end of the week was a perfect ending allowing each and every child to shine in their own way.”

Aged 12-17yrs? We need your ideas!
We’re looking for a group of 12-17yr olds to join our Young Planning Group and help make our Summer Festival 2018 the best yet! You will work with the Learning Team to decide which workshops and activities we offer and have input into the marketing and promotion of the Festival.
It’s a great opportunity to learn more about theatre, meet new people and have your say in what activity is offered for young people in Leeds.
If you’re interested, please get in touch with the Learning Team on 0113 2977042, text 07582 040451 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
Here’s what some of last year’s planning group had to say about their experience:
“The best bit was having the chance to takeover the Festival, for example, changing the theme and organising the workshops. We had lots of freedom to come up with our own ideas.”
“I really enjoyed working in a group and with other people similar to my age.”
