PRIMARY SCHOOLS

The Learning Team offer a range of curriculum-linked workshops, tours and projects for educational groups, using the exciting theatre environment to enthuse and inspire learning in a real world setting.

Theatre Tours and Workshops

Come and explore Leeds’ most historic theatres at Leeds Grand Theatre or City Varieties Music Hall. Tours can be tailored to the needs of your pupils.
Workshops use a combination of individual and group work and a variety of activities including tours of the theatre where relevant to ensure all students gain the most from their visit (the theatre is a working building therefore access may not be possible in all areas). Our workshops are differentiated for KS1 and KS2 pupils. For more information download our Learning Programme .

Bespoke Workshops

Looking for something a bit different? Our bespoke workshops and projects are a great kick start for new topics or can support current work in an engaging and inspiring setting. Previous bespoke activities have included: Ancient Greek vs. Victorian Theatre, Imaginary Settings, Talking Teamwork, Spooks and Superstitions and Music Through History. If you’re interested please get in touch  to discuss your ideas.

Schools Partnership Programme

Our Schools Partnership Programme offers a tailored package of curriculum-focused activities throughout the year such as tours, workshops and enterprise projects.  Teachers will have access to an online Teachers’ Forum to share experiences, an annual CPD event and a dedicated member of the Learning Team to support with project planning.
If you’re interested in building a meaningful partnership with the city’s historic and much loved theatres, then download details of our Schools Partnership Programme here or contact the Learning Team for more information.

Projects

“ These two (projects) have been some of the best work I have ever seen with primary school children in my 25 years of teaching and it is largely down to your vision, commitment and support”

Our project models can explore any curriculum area, such as the practical application of maths or science in the theatre, or focus on developing skills for learning, such as confidence, resilience and raising aspirations. We can also work with you to develop a bespoke project to meet the individual needs of your students. If you’re interested please get in touch to discuss your ideas.

Assemblies

With the use of story-telling, audio-visuals and an interactive quiz we introduce your pupils to the story of Leeds Grand Theatre and City Varieties. Assemblies last approximately 20 minutes, with strong curriculum links to history, drama and literacy. Appropriate for all ages.

Extra-Curricular: Summer Schools

Do your pupils get bored in the holidays? Want to encourage them to try something new? Our Takeover Summer Schools  organised by young people for young people, offer fantastic creative and fun taster activities in an arts environment for 7 – 11 year olds in August.

Youth Theatre

If your pupils would like to develop their skills further as well as have lots of fun meeting new friends and learning how to work together, then our Youth Theatre  takes on members from 8yrs+.
